About the Neighborhood

The English name "Geneseo" has roots in the Iroquois name for the earlier Iroquois settlement there, Gen-nis-heyo, which means "beautiful valley." Living is easy in this quaint village with walkable access to coffee shops, pizzerias and shops. Although Geneseo is the county seat of Livingston County, it appears in the Rochester rental guide due to the nearly 5,000 students who attend SUNY Geneseo located in the heart of the village. The campus runs along an eastern ridge line overlooking a breathtaking view of the green valley below. The spectacle continues as you roll down Geneseo's turn of the 20th century Main Street, which is one of the few street-scapes on the National Register of Historic Places. If you've got time for sight seeing, be sure to see the "Grand Canyon of the East," Letchworth State Park, just six miles from Geneseo.
