About the Neighborhood

Wherever you're moving from, you are fairly likely to make the mistake of pronouncing this neighborhood's name like the name of a certain spider dreamed up by E. B. White, but if you're looking for your new digs near the beaches of Lake Ontario, you should learn to say it "Shar-Lot." If you don't learn it here in this moment, you'll surely be corrected many more times while you're in Rochester. Charlotte is a tall slender neighborhood, its Northern edge pressed up to the sandy beaches of Lake Ontario, and its Eastern edge stretching into the Port of Rocheser and down the marshes of the Genesee River. Weaving through these marshes, you will find the award winning boardwalk of Turning Stone Park. Directly to the West it is bordered by the Suburb of Greece, and across the Genesee River, the suburb of Irondequoit lies to Charlotte's East, along with Seneca County Park, which is in the 14621 Community. Charlotte is a more car dependent neighborhood than much of the rest of the city, because it is so far North of the Central Business District. It makes up for this, though, with nautical character, especially when the beaches of Charlotte come alive with hundreds of visitors in the warmer seasons.
