About the Neighborhood

The Neighborhood of the Arts is aptly named. Art spills out into the streets in the form of umbrella shaped bus-stops, a phone booth that reads you poetry, mosaicked street lamps, and sculptures that double as benches. The Memorial Art Gallery, the centerpiece of the neighborhood, is currently undergoing major changes to its front yard, which is being turned into a more park-like sculpture garden than its current form. The Neighborhood of the Arts has interesting boutiques, and eclectic food options, especially in small urban mall known as Village Gate. Village Gate is also home to the Draper Center, the official training school to the Rochester City Ballet. There are plenty of great housing options in the Neighborhood of the Arts, including early 20th century homes and apartment buildings.
