About the Neighborhood

Spencerport is a quaint canal village in the Town of Ogden, which is on Rochester's West side. As commerce on the Erie Canal prospered in the later half of the 19th century, Spencerport became a bustling canal port packed with commerce. While the village has quieted down some since the Erie Canal was retired as a major trade route, the evidence of this time of prosperity is still present in Spencerport and Ogden. The Spencerport Depot and Canal Museum is a unique visitor center located in a 1907 depot that was once the only stop in Spencerport on the now defunct Rochester Lockport Buffalo interurban trolley line. The last weekend in July is a great time to visit Spencerport for the Spencerport Canal Days festival. A short drive away from Brockport on Route 31, Spencerport and Ogden are great options for Brockport University employees, or students looking to live off-campus.
